You’ve probably spent a fair amount of time checking out potential floor plans and looking at which communities in the Fingerlakes region best match your lifestyle. Now it’s time for action!

The last thing you want at this stage is to have things held up by financial issues. That’s why it’s smart to get your financial house in order before you sign a contract to build a new home. There are a couple of reasons why it’s really important to tackle finances early in the process.

  • It Affects Your Choices: Going through the process of seeing exactly what kind of loan (and that includes how much you can borrow) you qualify for can have a major impact on the house you decide on. If you qualify for more house than you thought, it allows you to think about adding some features (or space) that you may have thought was out of reach. If you qualify for less of a loan, it can keep you from getting your heart set on a home you can’t really afford. Both of those situations actually help you in choosing the right plan for your home.
  • Waiting on Your Loan Can Slow Things Down: If you haven’t already been qualified for a loan, that can really slam the brakes on the homebuilding process. It doesn’t mean you won’t be able to move forward, but it could mean delays in starting the process that you really don’t want. Sometimes financial wheels grind slowly. If you start the process early, you can let those wheels grind away while you’re focused on doing your homework to see which community you want to live in and what potential home styles best suit you.

Those are a couple of the reasons we’ve created our free Gerber Financing Checklist. It provides you with a simple, straightforward, usable way to make sure you’ve covered your financial bases ahead of time so that you don’t get blindsided by financail matters where you’re ready to move forward with your new home. Don’t let the loan process delay your move into the home of your dreams!
